Women's Premier League: BCCI awards title sponsorship rights to TATA Group Image

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that TATA Group will be the title sponsor for the Women's Premier League (WPL) seasons from 2023-2027. The TATA Group, which also holds the title rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL), will use the opportunity to promote its two flagship brands, TATA Capital and TATA Motors.

The WPL is seen as a significant development that will further boost the popularity of women's cricket. The tournament features some of the brightest Indian stars, such as captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Shafali Verma, playing in teams with global cricketing stars like Alyssa Healy, Deandra Dottin, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, and Sophie Devine, among others.

The inaugural edition of the WPL comprises 22 matches and features five teams: Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore & UP Warriorz. The tournament will be played from March 04 to 26 in Mumbai at the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.

Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI, stated that the TATA Group's involvement in the WPL is a testament to the growing stature of women's cricket in India. The BCCI values and appreciates women's cricket, and the WPL is one more initiative to further nurture the game.

Arun Singh Dhumal, Chairman of IPL, stated that the WPL is one more step in BCCI's continuous endeavour to support and promote women's cricket in India. The tournament promises to inspire and act as motivation for the budding women cricketers across the globe.
