India lost the third Test match against England by an innings and 76 runs. As a result, they have slipped to third place in the World Test Championship points table.

India were all out on 78 on Day 1. James Anderson and Craig Overton claimed three wickets apiece, while Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran had two each. Barring Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, none of the Indian batters could reach the double-digit mark.

England then piled up their misery by adding a massive 432. Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed added 135 for the opening partnership. Dawid Malan, playing his first Test after 2018, made 70, and the skipper Joe Root notched his third century of the series.

On Day 3, Cheteshwar Pujara forged crucial partnerships with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to keep the game alive. But Pujara got out early on Day 4, thus opening the floodgates for India. They were skittled out under 20 overs for just 278 runs.

The win earned England 12 points. They are now tied with India, on 14. Pakistan are at the top of the table, after winning 50 percent of the points on offer. They are followed by West Indies, at second place.
