Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh expressed uncertainty about India's prospects of winning the 2023 World Cup, which will be hosted by India. In a candid conversation on the YouTube channel Cricket Basu, Yuvraj shared his views on the state of Indian cricket, revealing his lack of confidence in the national team's chances.
When asked about India's World Cup chances, Yuvraj responded, "I am actually not sure to be honest if they are going to win the World Cup. I can say like a patriot that India will win. I see a lot of concerns in the Indian team, especially in the middle-order due to injuries."
Yuvraj expressed frustration with India's inability to secure a World Cup victory and shared his discontent with the team's inconsistent performances over the past decade. He highlighted the importance of finding the right combinations and suggested that India needs a pool of at least 20 players to select the final squad of 15.
According to Yuvraj, India's top order is strong, but the middle order needs improvement. He emphasized the significance of the fourth and fifth batting positions, suggesting that Rishabh Pant should bat at number four if he is doing so for his IPL franchise. Yuvraj also stressed the need for a middle-order batsman who can handle pressure and absorb it effectively.
Regarding the ideal number four position, which he excelled in during his career, Yuvraj mentioned KL Rahul as a potential candidate and also named Rinku Singh, acknowledging his batting prowess and partnership-building skills. He noted that it is important to provide Singh with enough opportunities to prove himself if he is selected for the position.
Yuvraj also expressed his interest in coaching, stating that he believes he would make a good coach. However, he acknowledged the need to be a part of the system to pursue coaching at the highest level.
In addition, Yuvraj expressed hope for Indian cricket with the appointment of former cricketer Ajit Agarkar as the chairman of the selection committee, considering him to be a good choice.
Yuvraj's honest assessment of India's chances in the 2023 World Cup reflects his concerns about the team's middle-order vulnerabilities. As fans eagerly await the tournament, the national team will need to address these issues and build a strong squad capable of delivering success on home soil.
