Hobart Hurricanes vs Perth Scorchers
Perth Scorchers 182/5 in 20 overs (Marsh 100*; Ellis 2-33) beat Hobart Hurricanes 129 in 20 overs (McDermott 41; Mills 3-23) by 53 runs. Player of the Match: Mitchell Marsh.
An unbeaten 100 from Mitchell Marsh helped Perth Scorchers win their third successive match in the Big Bash League 2021/22 and rise to the top of the points table.
Asked to chase 183, Hobart Hurricanes were bowled out for 129. They got off to a poor start, losing two wickets in the space of four balls. Matthew Wade (4) fell to Jason Behrendorff, and Tymal Mills pinned Caleb Jewell (2) leg-before.
A 69-run stand between D'Arcy Short (31) and Ben McDermott (41) steadied things. Then Mills got McDermott, and the rest of the batters failed to step up. Mills (3-23) was the pick of the bowlers, while Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye picked two wickets each.
Earlier, the Scorchers lost Colin Munro for a two-ball duck in the first over. They were reduced to 40/3 after five overs. But Marsh responded with a 60-ball 100 not out to take them to 182/5. Laurie Evans also chipped in with a 24-ball 40.
