Washington Sundar has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now doubtful for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. As per ESPNCricinfo, Sundar tested positive for the Coronavirus last week, and will soon finish the required week-long isolation. The BCCI is yet to decide whether he can be allowed to join the rest of the squad for the ODIs, who are set to reach South Africa this week.

Sundar is currently in Bengaluru. He was training at the NCA with other ODI squad members before he was diagnosed.

Sundar last played for India in March, in a T20I against England in Ahmedabad. He got injured after that, and returned in action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021/22. He was impressive in the competition, taking 16 wickets and scoring 148 runs for Tamil Nadu to help his side reach the final.

Sundar is one of three spinners India’s ODI squad, to be led by K.L. Rahul. The others are R. Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. The three-match ODI series will begin on 19 January in Paarl.
